Rules

A Local Rule is a modification of a Rule or an additional Rule that the Committee adopts for general play or a particular competition. The Committee needs to make sure that any Local Rules are available for players to see, whether on the scorecard, a separate handout, a notice board or the course’s website.
 

OUT OF BOUNDS. (OB)

A ball is deemed out of bounds on or beyond any fence, wall, hedge bounding the course, and beyond areas delineated by white stakes or lines. The internal road to the Club is out of bounds. A ball which crosses that road and comes to rest on or beyond, is deemed OB, even though it may lie on another part of the course. On Hole 18 the kerb at the green is marked showing the extent of OB round the back of the green.

HOLE 7. ALL BALLS MUST BE PLAYED FROM THE DESIGNATED TEE AREA.

If the teeing area is on a mat, players must play from the mat and NOT behind it. The Drop Zone is only for balls on the buggy path on the LHS of the green, the round flower bed, or wall cope. Free relief must be taken.

BUNKERS.

Stones may be removed. Relief may be taken from cloth and concrete linings and visible tree roots. If a player has reason to believe that there is concrete beneath a shallow depth of sand and that injury could result from playing or standing to the shot, the depth of sand may be tested with a tee peg. The ball may be lifted and placed at the nearest point of relief within the bunker and not nearer the hole. No penalty applies.

INTEGRAL PARTS OF THE COURSE.

Where there is no free relief – French drains covered with loose stones. Tree basins unless a stake or blue post attached. Bridges, if the ball is in the penalty area. Naturalised areas.

BAD WEATHER AND SUSPENSION OF PLAY

A suspension of play for a dangerous situation will be signalled by one prolonged note on the siren. All other suspensions will be signalled by three consecutive notes of the siren. In either case resumption of play will be signalled by two short notes of the siren.

PENALTY AREAS.

All penalty areas are defined by red stakes.

ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITIONS.

Free relief (i.e., One club length from the nearest point of complete relief not nearer the hole) is given for; -

  1. Ball in GUR (marked by white or blue dotted lines or blue stakes) Relief MUST be taken. There is no free relief for stance in GUR.
  2. Immovable obstructions i.e., buggy paths, flower beds, control stations, etc.
  3. Young trees staked or marked by blue posts.
  4. In the ‘General Area’, free relief may be taken from tractor, or buggy ruts, edging strips of greens, raised or sunken drainage ditches. Also from fixed sprinkler heads, but only if within 2 club lengths of the green of the hole being played and within two club lengths of the ball and intervenes on the line of play – between the hole and the ball, the player may obtain free relief at the nearest point of relief, not on the putting green or nearer the hole.  No relief if line of play is unreasonable.
